The housing market is booming
A home is often the largest investment a person will make in their life, and it’s important to keep track of the current value of your home. In recent years, home prices have been at record levels and the market has developed rapidly, so if you’re thinking about selling your home, it’s time to do it!
What affects the value of a home?

The selling price of a home is affected by its condition, floor plan and location. Several areas have seen their value increase dramatically in just a few years, and there are peaks in demand in Laajasalo, for example. Single-level terraced, semi-detached and detached houses built in the 2000s, made of “long timber”, are particularly popular with buyers. Most buyers want a yard, but are not prepared to do a lot of yard work, so a large terrace is the most popular choice in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The direction the apartment is facing also has an impact on the price of the home, and the most popular directions are west, south and southwest. A glazed balcony also increases the value of the home!
The “open concept” solution that came to Finland from America is also gaining momentum. An open kitchen, a large island and sufficient storage space increase the value of the home. Dressing rooms are more popular than ever, and especially in small homes, storage space is valued even more than a private sauna. The flexibility of the floor plan also affects the price of the apartment – if a good floor plan allows you to easily convert a 60 square meter two-room apartment into a three-room apartment, the attractiveness of the apartment will increase!
60 square meter apartment buildings in central Helsinki are significantly more attractive to buyers as three-room apartments than as two-room apartments. In addition, the highest floors in apartment buildings are the most sought-after, but for example, for older people and families with children, a spacious elevator is a necessity.
